Project Spotlight

Milton Elementary School

Problem

Many Finishing Touches. Tight Timeline.

The construction team for Milton Elementary School was on a tight timeline to finish this massive renovation project before the school year began.

PCG partnered with the team to print, fabricate, and install finishing touches that would stand up to the wear and tear of a school environment.

Construction delays and material supply chain issues necessitated careful planning and execution to finish the project in time for the first day of school.

Colorful, semi-transparent window wraps provide a balance of visibility and privacy.

Solution

Supply Chain Issues = A Pain in the Glass

While we can normally get glass at the drop of a hat—the supply chain was all backed up. One of our suppliers let us know that the tempered glass we use for so many installs was on a 6-week delay.

The glass was critical to the fabrication of hundreds of ADA signs and more. Fabrication takes time, and it was critical not to miss this deadline.

We pre-ordered glass months ahead thanks to our communication and relationship with our vendor.

The glass was delivered and the signs were fabricated ahead of schedule.

Obtaining the tempered glass for this girl’s bathroom sign required advanced planning.

Durable Signage Protects from Curious Fingers

As stylish as the new Milton Elementary School is, it must be durable. It’s housing hundreds of kids, after all! So with everything we printed, we kept in mind the curious (and sometimes mischievous!) nature of elementary schoolers.

Wipe away fingerprints from “antique” photos

We emulated antique prints by printing in sepia and black and white tones on photo quality paper, transforming the hallway into a mini-gallery of Milton history. Little fingerprints can be easily wiped away thanks to the clear, protective coating we added.

Protect from scratches with backside printing

Non-glare acrylic direction signage is protected from scrapes because we printed the lettering copy on the backside.

Flexible design for easy replacement

We kept in mind that classroom locations might be changed every year. Puck fasteners attach the signs so they can be easily removed and updated as needed.

This transparent directional sign has the words printed on the backside, protecting them from the scratching of little fingers.

A balance of privacy & safety to fight the fishbowl feeling

All-glass walls can feel airy and modern—but they can also make you feel like you’re in a fishbowl.

Semi-transparent murals and wraps were applied to conference room windows to provide privacy for meetings, while still maintaining visibility for safety reasons. PCG worked to find the right materials that would allow for the perfect balance of opacity and transparency.

This semi-transparent mural displays a historical image of Milton’s Federal Street.

ADA compliance for an A+ inspection

We know the ADA rulebook like the back of our hands—and we understand the delays caused by a failed inspection.

We ensured every detail of the ADA signage was correct for Milton Elementary’s ADA inspection and they passed with flying colors.

A big mural for big school spirit

Go team go! 17 individual stencils were carefully placed on the gym wall and hand-painted by our team. Standing at 19 ft tall and 76 ft wide, this mural shouts out loud “We have spirit, yes we do!”

This classroom sign has a non-glare finish and contains the large letter style required by the ADA regulations.
